I just want to go to bed, but I’m still stuck there with an iv antibiotic going. He tells me he can’t put it in faster than an hour, so I’m festooned with tubes and flappy gown. A small cut on my foot and now this? Good grief. If I see a priest I’ll officially freak out. Phone will die soon so this may be my last post… For tonight I mean… I hope! At least they gave me the good restricted class narcs, so I’ve got that going for me…
1) this is mccains strength and his campaign is that Obama isn’t ready - well in that mix even a draw means Obama can tie McCain on his strongest point. The reverse will not be true for the next two debates bc McCain isn’t where the country is on economy, health care, etc.
2) fivethirtyeight.com has a good roundup of flash polling of independents who watched the debate by several polling outfits and Obama has a strong advantage.
3) much of the election hangs on whether independents who want change and to give the dems a shot can get comfortable with Obama readiness, I think tonight he calmed many of those fears.
4) McCain said things tonight that will “unexcite” many in his base, such as “sure” he’d support a 700 billion dollar intervention and his comments against torture. No shit big dude who just sat down in the emergency room heard a replay of McCain talking about ending torture and he says “what? McCain don’t make me come there and torture you.” folks a lot of core base voters don’t like or trust McCain and with palin’s star falling a good number of them will stay home.
6) he’s taller, more handsome, and his tie was better.
in pursuit of how the debate played among red state undecideds I am liveblogging debate reactions from the emergency room in the palmetto state. And while I’m here on this important political mission i figure I’ll also multitask and have them check out the infection I got in my foot that has basically locked down my ankle and sends shooting pains up my calf. I’m hopeful they won’t have to take my leg. So far there has been little debate reaction. The baby two seats down seems quite distraught by the outcome.. or possibly an ear ache. And the drunk guy with a black eye and a bunch of knocked out teeth appears to be shouting at the pundits.. or he may just be asking if they’ve called his number. All I know is that the nurses like Obama (judging by their reactions to my Tshirt at the triage counter) - so here is to hoping the serve me before this baby! This could screw up my weekend golf plans with my buddy who lives
down here… Just my luck it doesn’t hurt bad while I’m doing all the work meeting stuff, but soon as that is over and I’m on free vacation time I lose my leg. I blame Sarah palin and everyone who dares to see the world differenty than I do…
I know people have seen the palin interview ad nauseam, but this is worth a look just to hear cafferty’s take on her answers afterward and to watch blitzer try to explain it away (and fail)… (via talkingpointsmemo lip from cnn)
usc is stacked - stacked - with talent, yet they always find a way to blow their title shot to crap pac10 team. pete’s a great coach, but he clearly has issues with focusing his team on the task at hand once the title talk starts.
I don’t torture myself over decisions. I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can. Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.
— John McCain, from his book “Worth the Fighting For” 2002.
