OMG OMG… i just heard from a friend that colbert made a joke i always make!! in certain work presentation contexts i make use of a particular new yorker cartoon (the one with the dog seeing a shrink with a caption “they moved my bowl”) and i always say i like it mainly b/c it is the only new yorker cartoon i ever understood, which always kills (self-deprecation always does, unless you’re conan obrien and then it gets tired quick). In fact I used that cartoon and a version of that joke as a tumblr post last year.
well on last night’s colbert he poked fun at the obama cover and uses that joke… but then at the very end of the clip he shows one other new yorker cartoon out of the tens of thousands that have appeared in the magazine over the years and yep… he showed the dog at psychiatrist cartoon!!! this made my day. and over the years as i reshape this story in my mind it will definitely be along the lines of “remember that time colbert stole my shtick from my blog”

You can personally believe anything you want about what is best for children, but how dare you use your position of authority to state a flat out fallacy that “we’ve proven” that same-sex parents are harmful to children or provide a less than ideal climate for child development. The American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, both APA’s (psychiatric and psychological), and the National Association of Social Workers have all looked at decades of longitudinal study of children reared in same-sex families and offered briefs attesting to the state of the literature. An extensive literature, which clearly demonstrates that not only have the children in 2 parent same-sex families faired just as well, when one considers the discrimination many of these children face - they actually appear to be incredibly resilient. McCain you can dissaprove for religious reasons, or reasons of political expediency, but you simply will not be allowed to state a falsehood about what “we know” about what is good for children.

The woman in front of me just had caterers show up in central park! She has 2 servers staying throughout and she just told them where she wants the bar set up! “and at intermission you will take down the first courses and put up the fruit and brownie trays.” she just told them she expects 50 people… Ha! As I type the old guy to the right of her blanket acreage just told her that they better be quiet during the music… This could get interesting!
So, it turns out I have once again overestimated how early I need to arrive somewhere… Oh well, as long as I don’t drink all the wine before my group shows with the food after they leave their real jobs. And to any potential stalkers with good spatial awareness, please bring me bug spray!!
